Digital Transformation, Hospitals and Patients
We are witnessing the dynamic development of numerous technological solutions in healthcare. Their potential creates a unique opportunity to prepare and expand a catalog of innovative solutions in the areas of prevention, diagnosis, therapy, rehabilitation and overall care for patients. The use of technological innovations and artificial intelligence models seems to be the future of healthcare, which is becoming increasingly preventive, personalized and precise.
Early preventive diagnostics and therapy of civilizational diseases, on the basis of personalized medicine and the principles of evidence-based medicine, are just some of the numerous benefits of digitizing the healthcare sector, especially considering the fact that 80% of its expenditure is distributed in the direction of combating such civilization diseases. Digital transformation brings a series of benefits in the long term, with a simultaneous wave of immediate challenges. Hospitals must be prepared for an increase in financial outlays, because solutions from the IT industry are among the most cost-intensive investments. In addition, it is necessary to involve staff supporting the testing and implementation of digital tools in a hospital facility, on administrative and medical grounds, and to ensure cybersecurity.
The digitization of healthcare is an investment, legislative and human resources challenge in Poland, as well as in other countries of the European Union, which respond with a digital, electronic cross-border health service aimed at ensuring the continuity of medical care for EU citizens in all Member States. Effective digitization, in addition to the initial input of tangible and intangible goods, also means cooperation between health service providers and the public sector, scientific and research institutions, and the pharmacological industry. Undoubtedly, however, it is the future of healthcare, being a remedy for staff shortages which increasingly more and more often lead to difficulties in ensuring the continuity of the treatment process and the provision of services.
The galloping digitization of the healthcare sector is a win for hospitals and patients. Not without significance at this point is the issue of collecting medical documentation, which, being in electronic form, should be quickly transferred between hospitals or other entities and patients. Rapid and effective exchange of information is one of the key elements of improving the diagnosis and therapy process, as well as saving time and eliminating errors resulting from the human factor in this process.
You will learn more about the digitization of healthcare during Tomasz Kopec’s speech in the webinar “Money in medicine - what to spend on and what to save on”.
Digitization of healthcare is primarily progress that may lead to a reduction in costs and staffing problems, increase the chances of faster treatment, and, above all, improve the quality of services provided, which will benefit the patient, often lost and forgotten in the system.
