In 2018, Old Mutual launched Old Mutual Rewards - a financial wellbeing programme open to all South Africans, irrespective of whether you are a customer. The programme offers its members a platform for educating and rewarding members for taking steps to manage their finances.

Old Mutual Rewards' website and administrative platform is managed by Comarch, the programme's technology partner.

How it works

The programme makes it possible for our members to learn about their finances in a fun and simple manner.  Our members are rewarded for gaining more knowledge on how to take control of their finances by assessing their current saving and spending habits through financial assessments and surveys, learning from  financial education videos and getting great financial advice from Old Mutual Financial Advisers.

The more members learn and engage with the programme, and having the right financial solutions with Old Mutual the more points they earn.  The programme has 5 tiers, which are determined by the number of financial needs met with Old Mutual. They then earn points on the premiums that they pay towards their insurance and savings products with Old Mutual. The higher the tier the more points they earn.

Once members have earned their points, they can spend them! There are 3 major ways of spending points; namely, investing into the member’s savings portion of their Money Account or spending them at any of the amazing retail partners or donating to a charity of the member’s choice. Points are spent via digital codes and vouchers.

Implementation and benefits

Old Mutual chose Comarch to design and deploy the financial wellbeing programme for their customers and other people interested in learning more about their finances. The implementation of this solution was based on the following modules:

  • Members Portal – website for participants, where all necessary information can be reached instantly and easily.
  • Business Administration – application for back office users to configure rules, rewards, and other parameters, plus track the programme performance.
  • Contact Center – tool for help-desk representatives to serve members' queries

Comarch successfully integrated the application with internal customer / sales databases and the learning platform Moneyversity. On top of that, credit assessment services and voucher providers – by using API (application programming interface).

Our solution benefits from Business Intelligence and Machine Learning mechanisms, which enables Old Mutual to track the programme performance efficiently and get personalised information about users.
